Why Canadians Should Participate in the SOPA/PIPA Protest

STOP SOPA

Today this site joins thousands of websites in going dark to protest against the Stop Online Piracy Act. While SOPA is proposed U.S. legislation, it has implications for all Canadians, including provisions that treat all Canadian IP addresses as if they were subject to U.S. jurisdiction.

Moreover, Canada faces the same relentless copyright lobbying campaign. From the much-criticized digital lock rules found in Bill C-11 to the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement to the proposal to extend the term of copyright protection in the Trans Pacific Partnership, Canadian copyright policy is increasingly shaped by the same groups promoting SOPA.

New Server OS's

I've now moved the primary host OS to Ubuntu Server 10.04 instead of the previous CentOS 5.x install.

My VM's will still be CentOS based, but I figured it was time to dig into Ubuntu a little more, and MythTV tends to be better supported with Ubuntu.

Please let me know if you find any issues.

New Zarafa version

I've just installed a major update to the Email suite used - Zarafa 7.0.

The system may seem a little slow on your first login as it re-indexes all your messages. Also, you may need to re-subscribe to any folders you may have created.

This new version improves the overall performance and feature set available. I hope you enjoy it.

Internet connection changes

Several changes happened today and more over the next couple days.

I've got a new internet connection in now as the previous one was unstable overnight, and that just wasn't acceptable.

This should be much quicker, and i'll be looking to do some other related network changes at the same time.

Stay tuned!

And we're finally back..

Man oh man, it's been a rough week..

I think this is the first time in the 17 years since I registered my first domain that my site/email was inaccessible for 8 days in a row.

I'm really sorry about that, but the system is fully back up and operational now.

Emails are catching up and flowing through the system..

Please let me know if you see any issues.

Thanks,

new spam filtering system implemented

I have a new spam (& virus) checking system implemented for all email domains hosted here, this should help cut down some of the junk we've been getting lately. This also helps me "contain" the entire system within my email "VM".

Let me know how it works for you.

New Look & New Name

The world is always changing, and I figured it was time this website needed a serious face lift and move into the (new?!?) millennium..

Historically i`ve always just generated some content, and put it up as static pages. I figured it was about time I actually used a proper web based content management system. Enter Drupal.

I`ve not used Drupal before, but it seems quite popular in certain circles and definitely covers the kinds of things i`d like to play with.

History

Jammys.Net has been many things over the years. It all started, oh, about the summer of '94...

I was writing some Fidonet gateway software for my Amiga computer, and the domain name I had at the time (jammys.ocunix.on.ca), was simply too long to expect any of my "customers" (although, it was run more like a co-op) to want their hostnames below it.
